Oh, Christmas tree! Oh, Christmas tree! Annnnd, that’s all the words I know. lol This year I actually decided to put a tree up! And made cute DIY Rae Dunn inspired Christmas ornaments too! Something about this pregnancy that has me feeling super festive and less of a humbug. I didn’t do a huge tree because I was a little afraid of how the dogs would do with it. Always been afraid the tree would be on the ground by the time we got home the way they wrestle in the house. Luckily, they have been absolute angels (not really), and the tree is still up and lit!

So, I didn’t do a big tree since I wanted to do a trial run with the pups to make sure it would be worth doing anymore. But I wanted to add a fun element to them. Like almost everybody else, I am obsessed with Rae Dunn everything! Unfortunately, it is super hard to find her pieces since they’re in such high demand all the time. I really loved the ornaments they came out with last year, and figured maybe I can make some cute DIY inspired ornaments for my tree!

The great thing about these, they were super easy to make! I recently treated myself to a Cricut machine but didn’t have yet when I initially began this project. So don’t worry if you don’t have one, you can still make these for a small cost! Just follow the instructions below.

What you will need

You don’t need a whole lot to create these. Not even a Cricut if you don’t have one. Just 4 simple items and to follow 4 simple steps! Here’s everything you’ll need below.

  • White glass or shatter-less ornaments, gloss or matte based on your preference. I found mine on Wayfair here. They were a little smaller than I wanted but they fit perfect for my size tree.
  • Precut Rae Dunn inspired font Christmas decals. There are actually a ton of Etsy listings for precut decals to put on whatever you want! Best of all they’re super affordable and ready to transfer. The ones I bought are sold out but here is another shop that carries them.
  • A pair of scissors.
  • Last, Any fun decorative Christmas ribbon you love!

Instructions

Step 1: They’ll usually come with all the decals on one sheet. Just simply cut the word or phrase you want out so you can easily transfer onto the ornament. Take a coin and rub over the top of the decal to make sure it sticks to the transfer paper good enough and not the backing side.

Step 2: Remove the white solid paper side from the decal so that you just see it and the sticky transfer paper.

Step 3: Center place the decal on the ornament. Don’t press the entire thing on yet or it will cause ripples in the decal. It’s best to start at the center since it’s a round object and smooth each letter on at one at a time, then removing the transfer paper as you go.

Step 4: Cut a piece of ribbon long enough to make a bow. Tie a bow around the top of the ornament. The easier way to do this is to probably tie the bow first and then just hot glue it on, but I was too lazy to go looking for mine. lol. All that’s left is to hang them up and beautify your tree!
